The urban Community of Dunkerque is actively pursuing a green energy policy
Everything started in 2004 when aerial thermography was used to evaluate heat loss through the roofs of the houses and buildings of the agglomeration. It was the first time an operation of this type was carried out on such a large scale in France.
This operation made it possible to visualize faulty and damaged roofs. The urban Community consequently opened information centres in a number of towns and there is now a permanent information centre in the Urban Community building.
In order to encourage and help the public take action against this waste of energy, it has created Réflexénergie, a strategic programme offering advice and guidance. Financial incentives are also offered for roof insulation and the installation of condensing boilers in new and old buildings.
The territory is currently experimenting with fuel cell energy.
