The Euroregion is set in the north-west of Europe and includes Nord-Pas-de-Calais, the Walloon region, Flanders and Brussels. It therefore serves as a major cultural and economic hub.
The Euroregion has spectacular infrastructural elements such as the tunnel under the English Channel, the coastal highway along the Belgian border and the Eurostar and Thalys high speed trains (TGV).
It was in this context of large infrastructure projects that the GEIE Euroregion (the European group for economic interest) was created in June 1991. It is a useful tool for examining important issues and for analysing their economic impacts.
Euroregion works on important issues such as the cross-border co-operation on language, culture and art, and the pursuit of economic development.
Euroregion also works on the institutional level in order to better understand the dynamics of its neighbouring countries, such as the Benelux countries, Germany and the United Kingdom as well as to optimise the benefits coming from the influx of people and goods which cross its territories.
